The White House says it is “very close” to finalizing a Gaza ceasefire and peace agreement ahead of the upcoming meeting between President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, signaling a rare high-stakes diplomatic moment in the protracted Israel-Hamas war. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, speaking on Fox News’ Fox & Friends, described the talks as nearing their conclusion, adding that Trump intends to present a 21-point peace plan to Netanyahu during their meeting.
Leavitt said the proposed framework would require compromise from both sides—even if the result leaves “neither side completely happy,” she insisted that the agreement would be “reasonable.” According to U.S. officials, the plan under discussion would aim to end hostilities in Gaza, secure the release of hostages, and provide a pathway for post-war governance and reconstruction.
In parallel, Israel and the United States have reportedly closed much of the gap between their positions. Israeli officials say recent meetings between Netanyahu, White House envoy Steve Witkoff, and Jared Kushner have narrowed differences over the Trump plan. A White House adviser told Axios that, if Netanyahu rejects the deal, the administration may place responsibility on him for prolonging the war.
