The United Kingdom has announced that it has allocated over £1 billion (approximately $1.36 billion) in military support for Ukraine, funded directly from proceeds of frozen Russian assets. The disclosure was made during a visit to Kyiv by UK Defence Secretary John Healey, who underscored the momentum behind accelerated delivery of vital military aid over the past 50 days.

According to official statements, the resources unlocked by immobilized Russian assets have enabled substantial procurement of critical defense supplies, ranging from ammunition and air defense missiles to spare parts and new support contracts ensuring that Ukraine can sustain its front-line operations effectively.

The UK’s ability to channel funds in this manner stems from its participation in the G7-backed Extraordinary Revenue Acceleration (ERA) loans initiative. As of March 2025, the UK had committed £2.26 billion in funding to this scheme, to be repaid using future profits from frozen Russian sovereign assets. To date, two tranches have been disbursed each worth £752 million bringing total ERA payments to £1.5 billion.

Beyond the financial aspect, this support includes tactical military equipment provision. For example, a first-time package of £70 million funded through ERA income covered 350 ASRAAM air-defense missiles, rapidly adapted for ground use alongside Raven launchers. The UK government also remains committed to broader military aid plans, pledging roughly £3 billion annually until at least 2030–31, with cumulative commitments reaching £10.8 billion to date.
