Thai soldiers reclaimed the strategic Phu Makua hill in Si Sa Ket province after successfully repelling multiple Cambodian assaults, according to the Royal Thai Army. The operation began Friday evening, with Thai forces retaking the highland around 6:50 pm. Despite Cambodia launching a pre‑dawn counterattack at 3:30 am on Saturday, Thai troops held firm and regained full control by 8:45 am, raising the national flag amid a chorus of the Thai anthem and asserting, “Our sovereignty will not be trampled upon”.
The Second Army Region highlighted that approximately 90 percent of the area was cleared by late morning, with Thai units scheduled to eliminate remaining Cambodian military installations such as baskets, radar towers, and iron ladders between 10 am and 2 pm. Reinforcements, including a rifle battalion and heavy weaponry, were dispatched to secure the position and allow front‑line teams to rest.
Officials warned that Cambodia may mount further offensives using indirect‑fire arms, urging civilians to remain vigilant and trust ongoing military updates.
