Russia’s Putin says Russian Navy’s nuclear weapons have been fully modernized
Russian President Vladimir Putin (L), Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu (2-R) and Admiral Nikolai Yevmenov, Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy (R) attend the Main Naval Parade marking the Russian Navy Day in St.Petersburg, Russia, 31 July 2022.

President Vladimir Putin announced that the Russian Navy’s strategic nuclear forces have been fully modernized, achieving 100% modernization. This declaration was made during a high-level defense meeting in Moscow, where Putin emphasized the significance of this milestone for Russia’s national security and global strategic balance.

The modernization encompasses the introduction of advanced nuclear-powered submarines, such as the Borei-A class, and the deployment of cutting-edge weaponry, including the Poseidon nuclear-powered underwater drones. These developments are part of Russia’s broader initiative to enhance its naval capabilities and maintain a robust nuclear deterrent.

This announcement comes amid escalating tensions between Russia and NATO countries, particularly concerning the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Western analysts view Russia’s accelerated nuclear modernization as a strategic move to assert its military prowess and deter external threats.
