In the early hours of April 6, Russia launched a missile attack on Kyiv, Ukraine’s capital, resulting in injuries and multiple fires across several districts. The assault triggered a nationwide air alert, with neighboring Poland scrambling jets in response to potential airspace violations.
Kyiv’s Mayor, Vitali Klitschko, reported explosions throughout the city as air defense systems engaged incoming missiles. Fires were reported in at least three districts, and two individuals were hospitalized.
This attack follows a series of Russian strikes targeting Ukrainian cities. On April 5, a missile strike in Kryvyi Rih killed 18 people, including nine children, and injured 72 others. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky criticized the international community’s response, particularly the U.S., for not explicitly condemning Russia’s actions.
In response to the escalating conflict, President Zelensky met with British and French military leaders to discuss deploying a multinational peacekeeping force in Ukraine. The proposed European-led force could comprise 10,000 to 30,000 troops aimed at enhancing Ukraine’s military deterrence. However, U.S. President Donald Trump has expressed reluctance to support such initiatives, pausing military aid to Ukraine and opposing its NATO membership.
