The Palestinian Authority issued a statement on Monday welcoming U.S. President Donald Trump’s newly unveiled 20-point peace proposal to end the war in Gaza, describing his efforts as “sincere and determined” and expressing confidence in his ability to chart a path toward lasting peace. According to WAFA, the official PA news agency, the authority affirmed it is ready to cooperate with the United States, regional states, and other partners on a comprehensive agreement that would deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza, secure the release of hostages and Palestinian prisoners, ensure Israeli military withdrawal, and advance a two-state solution.
Under the terms implicit in the statement, the PA also called for mechanisms to protect Palestinians’ rights, prevent forced displacement or annexation, unify Gaza and the West Bank institutions, and guarantee accountability and respect for international law. While the PA’s endorsement stops short of endorsing every detail of Trump’s plan, it marks a clear shift toward diplomatic engagement rather than outright rejection.
The timing of the response is significant: Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced the plan in Washington just hours earlier, and while Netanyahu declared support, Hamas — the de facto ruler in Gaza — has so far only committed to “studying” it. The PA’s backing may place it in a position to influence Palestinians’ political trajectory in post-war Gaza, depending on whether it can negotiate an acceptable role despite Hamas’s central control over Gaza strip.
