Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has publicly renewed his call for U.S. President Donald Trump to receive the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize, citing Trump’s recent role in mediating a ceasefire and hostage exchange between Israel and Hamas as justification.
In a social media post on X, Netanyahu shared an AI-generated image showing himself awarding Trump a Nobel medal, accompanied by the caption, “Give @realDonaldTrump the Nobel Peace Prize — he deserves it.” While this is not the first time Netanyahu has made such a nomination—he previously handed over a letter nominating Trump during a July visit to the White House —the renewed plea follows closely on the heels of the agreement, announced on October 8, for a Gaza ceasefire deal brokered under U.S. auspices.
Netanyahu argued that Trump’s diplomatic leadership and “historic advancements” toward regional stability warrant the Prize, positioning the U.S. president as a central figure in recent Middle East peacemaking efforts. Support has also emerged from groups representing families of Israeli hostages, who have urged the Nobel Committee to recognize Trump’s role in securing their release. Nonetheless, analysts caution that such endorsements may carry limited weight in the Nobel Committee’s deliberations, noting that nominations are confidential for 50 years and that the committee typically emphasizes sustainable peace over symbolic recognitions.
As the Nobel Peace Prize winner is scheduled to be announced on October 10, Netanyahu’s public advocacy can be seen as both a political posture and a bid to align Trump’s legacy with peace diplomacy. Whether the Norway-based committee will weigh his intervention or countenance what critics view as a high-stakes push remains uncertain.
