In a significant display of military vigilance, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) launched an unannounced readiness drill, codenamed “Dawn,” aimed at testing the responsiveness of its General Staff, headquarters, and key command centers across all theaters of war. Under the leadership of Chief of Staff Major General Eyal Zamir and under the oversight of IDF Comptroller Brigadier General Ofer Sarig, the exercise simulated sudden, large-scale, multi-front scenarios to evaluate both reaction speed and operational quality.

Reports emphasize the exercise’s scope: designed to replicate the urgency and complexity of real conflict, it unfolded without warning to realistically stress-test command infrastructure. The IDF underscored that “Dawn” is part of a broader series of readiness inspections across all branches and units, aimed at enhancing overall competence and preparedness.

The timing of the drill is especially notable, coming amid active IDF operations on multiple fronts, including recent strikes against a Hezbollah target in southern Lebanon’s Aynata region, seen as gathering intelligence in defiance of a ceasefire agreement . This multi-theater context underscores Israel’s determination to maintain high alert levels even as combat activities persist.

Furthermore, reports suggest the exercise aligns with strategic planning for potential escalation, particularly a possible campaign to seize Gaza City, reinforcing the military’s drive to rehearse complex, coordinated responses to diverse threats.
