China has once again criticized U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent escalation of tariffs, labeling the move as “extremely shameless” and warning that it will ultimately backfire on the United States. Xia Baolong, a senior Chinese official overseeing Hong Kong and Macao affairs, condemned the 145% tariff imposed on goods from Hong Kong, describing it as “brutally unreasonable.” He cautioned that such actions would harm ordinary Americans, whom he referred to as “peasants,” and emphasized that pressure tactics have historically failed against the Chinese people.
In response to the U.S. tariffs, China has raised its own tariffs on American imports to 125%. The Chinese government has also criticized the U.S. approach as “economic bullying,” asserting that such measures will ultimately harm global economic stability. China has vowed to take resolute measures to safeguard its sovereignty and development interests.
Amid the escalating trade tensions, Chinese exporters are reportedly exploring alternative routes to circumvent tariffs, such as rerouting goods through Southeast Asia and Mexico. Additionally, China is considering retaliatory measures, including limiting U.S. access to critical minerals like rare earths, which are vital to American industries.
The ongoing trade dispute has led to increased rhetoric on both sides, with China emphasizing its resilience and readiness to counter U.S. measures. Chinese officials have stated that they will “fight to the end” to protect the nation’s interests, highlighting a deepening conflict over trade policies and mutual economic tensions.
